A Canadian union that successfully unionized one warehouse accused the company of closing its sites to fend off organizing efforts in the region.

Amazon is laying off nearly 2,000 workers and closing seven facilities in Quebec over the next two months as it transitions to a third-party delivery model in that province. A company spokesperson said the delivery will be similar to how it operated prior to 2020, which is when the company opened its own facilities in Quebec.

Unions had gained a foothold in one of the company’s warehouses in the province, though Amazon would not say if there was a connection.
