The pop icon and celebrated torch singer Marianne Faithfull has died. The blonde, voluptuous Faithfull was an international celebrity before age 20 when she covered one of the first songs written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards,

A fresh-faced singer in the 1960s, she went on to experience more than her share of hard times before emerging triumphant in the ’70s.

Singer, song writer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died, her spokesperson confirmed to CNN Thursday. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed,” the statement said.
