Sonoma County drenched by deluge that reached a peak Tuesday, raising the Russian River toward flood stage, closing dozens of roads, including HIghway 101 in Windsor, and causing mudslides, one of which sent a Forestville vacation home into the Russian River.

Even as the rain has subsided for the day, evacuation orders are still in place for low-lying areas around the Russian River between Healdsburg and Jenner after a home was pushed into the swollen river.

The mudslide was reported at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Westside Road and Rio Vista Road in Forestville, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. The house, which was unoccupied, was later spotted downstream, Wood said.

As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Russian River in Guerneville had risen above 36 feet, entering the moderate flood stage, where waters typically inundate the Mirabel RV Park & Campground in Forestville. Multiple businesses and homes in low-lying areas likely experienced flooding. It’s unclear if the river has peaked in Guerneville.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday evening issued an evacuation order for low lying areas along the Russian River, the office announced just before 6 p.m.

Flooding continues to threaten communities along the Russian River in Sonoma County, with evacuation orders still in effect. In Healdsburg, a mudslide has damaged several homes. Crews worked to clear debris late Tuesday.
