Look, I know rich people aren’t uniformly stupid, but there definitely seems to be a subset of luxury goods that assume such. (Luxury fashion made to look like thrift store goods comes to mind.) And Asus apparently wants a piece of that blue-blood pie because it’s making an RTX 5090 graphics card covered in friggin’ gold.

Nvidia RTX 50-series cards are about as ephemeral as Casper the ridiculously expensive ghost right now, with stocks having dipped to nigh-on zero within a few minutes of launching last week. One might even say they're as rare as gold.

MSI and ASUS have now jacked up prices of the GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs in their US stores. Scalpers may be the scum of the earth due to their intentional price gouging habits, but companies like MSI and ASUS aren’t doing anything to help the situation with regard to the already impossible-to-obtain graphics card.
