Remco Evenepoel won the stage five time trial at the Tour de France as Tadej Pogacar seized yellow and saw his rival Jonas Vingegaard lose more than a minute on the roads around Caen.

By Vincent Daheron FRANCE (Reuters) -Belgian Remco Evenepoel lived up to his favourite's tag in the individual time trial by winning stage five of the Tour de France on Wednesday, with defending champion Tadej Pogacar's second place enough to take hold of the leader's yellow jersey.

Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar was the big winner of the fifth stage of the Tour de France on Wednesday, July 9, taking the yellow jersey as Belgian Remco Evenepoel won the stage, a time trial on mostly flat Normandy terrain.

In the time trial, however, at least the flat one on stage 5 – today, at the time of writing – Remco Evenepoel is the out-and-out favourite, and he will no doubt have been banking on this stage to claw some time back on his rivals after his team's sleepy opening stage.
