MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Chantal grew in strength as it approached the southeast U.S. coast. It's forecasted to bring heavy rains to parts of the Carolinas on Sunday. Tropical storm warnings were issued for portions of the two states, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said Tropical Storm Chantal is expected to move across the coast of South Carolina on Sunday.

Tropical Storm Chantal was downgraded to a depression Sunday but raised concerns of possible flash flooding as it makes its way through central North Carolina toward south-central Virginia.
